The Ammon/Idaho Falls BIG5 sporting goods store now stocks some pickleball items. The store is located southeast of the 17th & Hitt intersection next to the Ammon Albertson's. Be sure and touch base with Josh Bonnesen, the BIG5 Manager. Let him know you appreciate BIG5's support for pickleball. Josh mentioned May 13 that he would consider expanding his pickleball inventory and price range. Customer feedback would certainly help bring that possibility to reality.
To find the pickleball items go to the rear of the store and then to the far right corner. You will notice numerous ball and racquet items in that far corner. Look on the back of a free-standing rack for the pickleball items. b They are on the lower right side of the rack.
This one dozen package of outdoor pickleballs is priced at $30. That's about "par for the course" for outdoor balls. Indoor balls can be had online for as little as a buck a ball.
The Onix Pure 2 outdoor balls are the most widely used in tournament play. They are excellent balls. We've visited some Arizona outdoor courts where ONLY Onix Pure 2 balls are allowed. These balls are $3.33 each and can't be found online at a discount. We bought ours at Big5 in Payson, Arizona, and highly recommend these balls for outdoor play on the Lincoln Park courts.
This is a decent price for a high quality wood laminate paddle. If it has the Onix brand on it, chances are good that it will hold up well. It has an elongated but narrow grip.
Bear in mind that everything in the BIG% inventory is on the shelf at regular price. Therefore, the 20% coupon applies. This paddle would be $16 with the coupon and that's a very good price.
Here are the Onix Pure 2 indoor balls. Personally, we don't think there's much of a difference for indoor balls. We use JUGS indoor balls since we purchased them for a dollar each. These are $3.33 each.
This is a very nice paddle.
It should be a nice paddle for $80. With the coupon, it would be $64 and that's a much better price.
We're not so sure about this paddle since it has a tennis handle. We've never used a tennis handle but if you're a tennis player it might be just the ticket.
Here's an interesting so-called "club" paddle. It seems to be a high price for what you're getting.
It's one of the highest priced wood laminate paddles we've ever seen at $40.
A much better deal are these two wood laminate paddles with a couple of balls included.
The two paddle package wold be $32 with the coupon. Add in a sleeve of three Onix Pure 2 outdoor balls and you'd be looking at $42, plus tax to have a real nice set of paddles and indoor and outdoor balls. We have extensive experience with these Onix paddles. We've never seen one break or fail. They are perfect workhorse paddles for beginners.
If you don't wear prescription eyeglasses, be sure and pick up a pair of protective eye goggles. BIG5 has a nice selection in the $10-$20 range. They are located immediately left of the pickleball equipment on that free-standing rack.
